Apple’s iPad has long held the crown of most revered and best-selling tablet PC ever to hit the market anywhere in the world, therefore it comes as no surprise that the iPad 3 is perhaps the most highly-anticipated device release expected in 2012 as a whole.
According to the most recent round-up of credible and industry-backed rumors surfacing from the Far East and beyond, the third generation of Apple’s epic tablet creation will sport an even sleeker profile than the current iPad 2, regardless of universal expectations of the most spectacular hardware upgrades under the hood.
The real showstopper of the iPad 3 looks set to be its display, which may offer resolution of 2048 by 1536 to bring it right in line with the Retina display of the iPhone 4S.
Processing power currently comes courtesy of the revered dual-core A5 chip shared with the iPhone 4S, though its bigger brother is widely expected to herald the introduction of the quad-core A6 – effectively making the iPad 3 more powerful than many high-end laptops and desktops computers.
Stirrings are also gathering strength regarding an update of iOS 5 for the iPad 3, so as to incorporate a number of new and exclusive features, including those in relation to multi-touch technology.
A larger battery is also pegged as a likely inclusion despite the smaller size of the iPad 3 casing, along with the introduction of Apple’s new wireless charging system.
Release date-wise, all eyes are now focused on the first half of March this year, though the chances of an official unveiling as early as next month have not been ruled out.
