To Sell or Not to Sell a Used iPad Ahead of Imminent iPad 3 Release Date?

To Sell or Not to Sell a Used iPad Ahead of Imminent iPad 3 Release Date? With the iPad 3 release date well and truly just around the corner, millions of current iPad 2 devotees are beginning to ask the same questions – Should I sell my iPad 2 and buy the new iPad 3? If so, should I sell it now or wait until closer to the release date? Or maybe even after? Or are there really enough differences to make it worth bothering with an upgrade at all?

Well, the bad news is there really is no right or wrong answers because it all depends on how much money you have to play with. If cash is tight and the decision is a really pressing one, there’s little doubting that the iPad 2 will continue to function right toward the very top end of the ladder for months, probably even years to come, so don’t feel as though an upgrade is the be all and end all.

On the other hand, if you’re one of the more hardcore Apple devotees or gadget fans who cannot live without the latest and greatest, the good news is that iPads and Apple products across the board seem to hold their value better than almost any others the world over today.

So, if you really are insistent on upgrading then the short answer is to consider selling your iPad 2 right now for two very good reasons – the first of which being an imminent price drop in retail iPad 2s from Apple and the second being the way in which the iPad 3 will massively steal the thunder of all used iPad 2 sales upon its arrival.

General estimates peg the value of a used 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 at around the $250 mark right now, which isn’t bad considering the current retail price tag of around $400 or so. Take this off the $500 price expected for the entry-level iPad 3 and the price is hardly an extortionate one for staying right at the very top of the gadget game.
